The Community Group of DCS (the families and legal guardians of all currently enrolled students) is integral to supporting the values and mission of our school. The following roles allow us to support the students, teachers, wider community, and each other to create the community that our school is all about. All time put towards these roles count towards your required annual hours.

Elected Officers -- these must be filled before the end of the previous school year
Chairpersons Responsible for ensuring required meetings are held, and overall roles as Chief Executive of the DCS Community Group.

Evening meetings plus prep throughout the year; estimated 70 hrs.

Classroom Support (At teacher's discretion)
Room Representatives Organize 2 parties to be held during school hours (Halloween and Valentine's); coordinate and present teacher's gift in December; estimated 15-20 hrs for Youngers and Middles, 20-25 hrs for Olders.

Learning Journey Coordinator(s) Work with the teacher to plan Learning Journeys for students and coordinate all activities around Learning Journeys (eg. Permission slips, car seats, drivers).

Book Order Coordinator Coordinate classroom Scholastic book orders.

Mostly evening/weekend work to print and attach letters to catalogs and sort books. Need to pick up and drop off sorted books in person at school; estimated 8 hrs.

Community Building and Outreach

Winter Event Chairs

Program Overview Chair:

Coordinate overall logistics for the Winter Event, including working with the Art and Food coordinators.
 
Art Coordinator:

Coordinating, collecting, preparing student art; interviewing students and creating biographies; coordinating with Friday Specials Coordinator to collect and display artwork.

Estimate 30 hrs. Work occurs in the months leading up to the Winter Event (March). Majority of work is in the month before the event, and mainly outside of school hours.

Create a ballot, coordinate printing and assist at the Community meeting when the election occurs (early Spring) to elect next year's chair, treasurer, and secretary roles. Potentially assist in finding individuals for these roles.

New Families Coordinators

Welcome new families and help them connect with resources and people in the community.

Friday Specials Coordinators Organize four Friday Special tracks (Fall, Winter, Spring); recruit Track Leaders and assistants; create ballots for the students; create student roll sheets (spreadsheet with formula provided); organize roll sheets for Track Leaders and put up signs; ensure Tracks are running smoothly. Staff Appreciation Coordinators

Work with PTSA to coordinate Staff Appreciation activities throughout the year. Main focus is Staff Appreciation Week in the spring: recruit volunteers and communicate the week's plan for flowers, buffet items, etc.

Estimated 10-15 hrs spread over the Staff Appreciation week (changes each year but always in the Spring) plus some planning time.

Fundraising Chairs

Coordinate with PTSA Fundraising team for Outdoor Education camp (Olders class), attending one or two meetings and talking to the classes.

Coordinate with the Olders' Room Reps for the traditional November Pie Sale.

Inform community of fundraising channels such as employer matching, Amazon Smile, Fred Meyer Rewards.

Event Photographers Attend classroom events, learning journeys, and other events to take photographs to submit to our Smug Mug gallery for use in creating the DCS Memory Pages book.

Usually two photographers per classroom. No need for specialized cameras; mobile phone photos are fine.
 
Memory Pages Using photographs submitted to Smug Mug, create the DCS Memory Pages book (yearbook). Undertaken in March in order to have the books distributed by the end of the school year.  Memory Pages Coordinator Role Description
